Competition Entry

While studying at De Montfort University, I entered an international student architectural competition and won a Highly Commended award. My work was showcased in RIBA, London in August 2007.

The brief was to explore the concept of slow buildings, able to store energy, and low carbon buildings reducing the carbon dioxide emissions over the life cycle of the building. This had to be portrayed on two A1 size sheets. My design was based on the simple concept of being able to build modular buildings, either detached or in a row of attached homes, all from local materials, harnessing the power of the sun. I designed a simple house layout which could be adapted for a family home and made a physical model of it to photograph.

Regional House adapted to benefit from passive and active solar design. Thoughtful use of local materials with practical but original proposals. Performance shown in principle only. Highly Commended.
