Principal Designer

CDM regulations 2015 requires a person to undertake the role of Principal Designer, if the works have more than one contractor involved. This role can be undertaken by the Domestic Client, unless they appoint an Architectural Designer / a third party CDM advisor / or the Principal Contractor to the role.

Eliminating design stage risks

The Principal Designer manages health and safety in the pre-construction phase of a project. The Principal Designer prepares preliminary information relevant to the health and safety file, to make the Principal Contractor aware of any risks. This is through a construction phase plan. The plan will be passed on to the Principal Contractor for inclusion in the health and safety file.

Let's Design Architecture can undertake the pre-construction phase role of Principal Designer and help to organize communications between the Client, the Designers and Construction teams, to minimize foreseeable health and safety risks within the design.
